WOMEN'S SPORTS AS AN EXPRESSION OF THE RIGHT TO EQUALITY AND FREEDOM
Women's sports are an expression of the right to equality and freedom of all women to have control over their bodies and to participate in the public arena, regardless of nationality, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion".
Access to sports is not always democratised and there are still inequalities and disparities in its practice for women, including the youngest. Indeed, women are less likely to take part in sports activities and do not have the same opportunities to access this type of leisure activity.
Through its "Women's Sports" project, Emergence XL has chosen to invest in this area to enhance the social and educational function of sports.
WOMEN'S SPORTS' OBJECTIVES
-
Develop access to services, equipment, spaces, sites and routes related to sports practices.
-
Introduce girls and women to the benefits and enjoyment of physical activity, so that they develop healthy lifestyles based on self-esteem.
-
Restore women's self-esteem and autonomy.
The first step is introducing women to sports, increasing their awareness of sports and encouraging them to practise them regularly.
To this end, Emergence XL organises weekly "Free Style" dance workshops as well as aerobics and gymnastic games.
SPECIFIC PROJECT OBJECTIVES
-
Enable women to have access to sports.
-
Encourage women to participate in sports regularly.
-
Develop women's autonomy in the acquisition of healthy lifestyle habits, the practice of sports and physical activity.
-
Offer a pleasant environment and activities that allow women to get away from their daily routine and let off steam.
-
Value the role of women in the implementation of the activity programme.
-
Respond to women's demand for sports activities aimed at overall fitness.
On the other hand, it is also a question of organising monthly partnerships with sports clubs to introduce women to sports activities that they might be apprehensive about.
This involves practising different disciplines or sports in several sports venues (team sports, racquet sports, individual sports, combat sports, gymnastic or dance-related activities, etc.).
To this end, Emergence XL and the Centre Sportif Ixellois Albert Demuyter A.S.B.L. have committed to setting up a partnership with sports clubs that are part of the centre or elsewhere to increase public awareness of women's sports, encourage women to take part in sports regularly and make sports accessible to all, by allowing women to benefit from the collective resources invested in Ixelles' stadiums or clubs.
